Born in 1973 in Guruve, Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe. Tendai began sculpting in 1989 whilst still in school and was taught, inspired, influenced and encouraged by his elder brother Edronce Rukodzi. In 1992 he became a school teacher whilst sculpting in his spare time.
In 1993 he joined the Tengenenge Art Community. In 1994 he then went to Harare were he joined other artists like Raymond Chirambadare and Joe Mutasa to mention a few. He also began working with Chapungu, Pierre Gallery, Stone Dynamics, Ramambo and many other small galleries. During this time he also got international recognition and participated in group exhibitions in England, Germany, Netherlands, China, Korea and many other countries.
In 1999 he re-joined Tengenenge where he became one of the best-selling artists, working alongside Bernard Matemera. In 2003, he went back to Harare and joined Tsindi Gallery, where he is currently working.
In 2005, he went to Netherlands and Belgium for workshops and exhibitions. In 2006 he travelled to Germany for workshops and exhibitions organised by HAMUPA (Harare-Munich Partnership). The same year he went to Salzburg, Austria for workshops with Matombo Gallery. Since then he has been featured in various international Media, including France24. He has taught and mentored many young and promising artists.
His dream is to be in an art symposium, sharing, working and exhibiting with other international artists.
