Born 1977 in Karoi in the northern district of Hurungwe, Spencer started carving in 1992 at the Mzilikazi Art centre in Mashvingo. His first teacher was renowned sculptor Godfrey Kurari who later encouraged him to travel to Harare to seek further
teaching from Dominic Benhura.After devolping his skills further with Benhura, he founded Dindingwe Arts and Crafts Cooperative in Warren Park Harare with his first  teacher Godfrey Kurari.
In 2000 he began to display his works at Chapungu gallery in Harare.
His work has been exhibited in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town and has been included in collections in Italy, Germany, the U.S.A. and the Netherlands.
